About this deal

When God told John Wroe to comfort himself with seven virgins, his congregation gave him their daughters. His many prophecies proved remarkably accurate - not least of all his predictions of industrial and scientific advancements and a 'grievous plague' which came unfortunately true when cholera was to hit the town - but many still viewed him as a charlatan. Jane Rogers proceeds from that premise to give four of the virgins a chance to tell how they spent a year in the house of Mr Wroe. was caused by a number of girls who, seeing the general enthusiasm, feared that they might not all find a place among the seven.

An ok story about my birth town and the area around it Quite a good story about a preacher and his followers . On the front of the property is a blue plaque commemorating Wroe, although it wrongly claims that he was banished from the town and fled to Australia. WROE'S VIRGINS casts a spell on readers from the outset, playing on our expectations and touching a chord of desire that could lead to disaster on nearly every page. With only 50,000 humans left, the only hope for humankind is to locate the mythical "13th Colony" known as Earth before they fall prey to the Cylons.

Adapted from Jane Rogers' novel, and inspired by actual events, Mr Wroe’s Virgins is set in Ashton-Under-Lyne in the 1830s. But the Galactica was set to be commissioned at the time of the attack, and is hardly an ideal vessel to harbor humanity's last hope. One of the virgins is crippled, with short bowed legs — another has taken her arm and supports her lurching career over the uneven ground. On a side note, this was turned into an English mini-series with Jonathan Pryce (Wroe) and Minnie Driver (Leah), and I've read nothing but good reviews of it.

Screaming, weeping and threshing uncontrollably, the poor girl was helped into the vestry room in inner Sanctuary, and efforts were there made to calm her.Born in Bradford in 1782, the son of a woolcomber, he was instructed to convert to Judaism by a vision he had during a serious illness in his late thirties. After the choosing I hastened to speak to her, in the hope of bringing her to knowledge of God's love — but she fled at such a speed that she was lost to me.
