About this deal

Cayin states the playback will become very musical with a natural, organic and coherent presentation. However if I am going to be nitpicking, I would say that I would have preferred RU6 to exhibit just a tiny bit more of smoothness.

Cayin recommends using bit-perfect USB output, as well as fixing the digital output volume over USB to the maximum for the best performance. The RU6 has a rectangular shaped body which is bulkier and heavier than the usual D/S USB DAC/Amps like the EarMen Sparrow. The sound stage is wide, especially in depth; the layering is impressive; the separation between instruments is solid and I even find that RU-6 has 3D presentation. The company has achieved renown in recent years with their N6 II DAP especially with its modular design. The R-2R DAC circuit is very demanding on incoming data integrity and the digital volume of mobile phones will damage the sound quality badly.

The sound of any source, either if it is a DAP, DAC/amp, or a portable usb DAC/amp dongle, is based on pair up synergy with different earphones and headphones. As for battery consumption, I have measured my RU6 on Sony Xperia X Compact (Android 8, 2700 mAH, UAPP bitperfect mode, Low Gain driving TRN VX Pro) and the results yielded 6 hours of continuous play by the time the battery reached 3% (from 100%). The RU6 isn’t a device that photographs especially well but exudes a classy, high-quality impression in person.

The CP32E are fairly sensitive as far as driveability goes, but still have black background with good sources to my ears. On the RU6, this led to a degradation of sound quality since the R-2R DAC is very demanding on the incoming data integrity – with digital mobile phone volume control resulting in lower sound quality.I used the RU6 with a salvo of different transport devices: My Samsung Galaxy S21 phone, my iPad Mini 6th Gen (USB-C model), my iBasso DX240 Digital Audio Player, my Asus Chromebook, my Dell Precision laptop, and my Intel Canyon Hades NUC desktop PC. My understanding is that difference between NOS (smoother) vs OS(more revealing) uses pretty similar wording. It didn’t sound too bad, but I wasn’t able to drive these headphones to their full potential, and added C9 to the output. All of the dongles come with great features and amongst them the W2 and the RU6 are the most powerful ones. Safeguard signal integrity makes sure the noise from the reference clock and DSP will not bleed intro amplification circuit.
