About this deal

Artie is a cute little WiFi-enabled programmable robot to introduce the basics of coding (my girlfriend thinks that it looks like an owl, hence the name Artie after Artemis the wise owl, rather than his name coming from drawing art). Four modes of play: pre-programmed shapes, games, art for colouring and freeform coding, children will love coding Artie to “tell” the robot what to do! There’s a setup guide included with Artie, which is great for someone who is confident with computers.

SIMPLE SET UP: With Artie 3000’s built-in WiFi server, no internet connection is required; Kids plug their own tablet or computer (not included) in Artie 3000 and follow step-by-step instructions to start programming in minutes!

Use the software to easily drag and drop blocks of code into the command area, telling Artie 3000 to turn right or left, move forward or backward, and pick up or put down a pen. He draws a picture following the code written by the user, using its own Artie UI programming language. Once you have seen how the code works from the pre-programmed ones, Artie comes with 3 activity cards for you to code – easy (draw a square), medium (draw a mandala) and hard (draw a Tic-Tac-Toe grid).

Just unscrew the flap on the back of Artie, install the batteries and screw the flap back into place. I doubt I’m the first parent who panics when confronted with a toy/learning resource that draws with pen! He found the drag and drop tiles easy to use and understood that different sections could have a loop of repeated actions. Quick and Easy to Set Up– I literally opened the box, popped in some AA batteries, followed some short instructions to allow me to programme him from our tablet (so much easier than it sounds, I promise! Start coding in minutes with the Remote Control function, included pre-programmed codes, easy-to-follow instruction guide, and built-in tutorials.Getting much wanted Christmas presents for grandchildren is stressful enough so Emma's understanding and support was much appreciated. But this has frustrated T as a few of his creations have not been picture perfect because of Artie not doing the correct distance or angle of drawing.

You can also differentiate by teacher/parental input- stretching children to try more coding by themselves and supporting them through harder tasks. Thanks to inbuilt wifi it connected without any issues and we could access the Artie interface to code and draw with him. Thankfully, I can confirm that Artie is incredibly simple to set up, use and demonstrate (even whilst excited children are sat next to you waiting to play with him! Manufacturer warranties are as provided by the manufacturer at the time of print and are subject to variation.Syd is almost 7, and she is a big fan of STEM so I knew she would love Artie almost as much as I do. As well as the fact sheets Artie also comes with 4 washable coloured pens in blue, green, pink and purple colours. On the bottom of Artie 3000, there is the other end of the marker tube that allows the tip pf the marker to stick out so that it can draw. As you become more practiced and confident you can also use Blockly (a Google language, an alternative to Scratch that is used in schools), JavaScript, Python and Snap!

Visit the blog to discover activities that will help keep kids learning and engaged through meaningful play. Artie 3000 comes with preloaded designs to help kids try out their coding skills, before creating their own designs. Artie Max has cool bonus features including 3 on-board markers, a rechargeable battery, LED light-up eyes and mouth, emotive sounds, smart sensors, and line-detection. Test your code in the online simulator before setting Artie 3000 on a sheet of paper to draw the shape you've coded. He said it was much more likely Artie 3000 would be used to plant the seed of curiosity for coding in future generations.
